Module Prerequisites:

Some background in mechanics of materials (stress, strain) will be useful for the morning lectures and the last lecture.

For the afternoon lectures all knowledge on diffraction of light or X-rays will be useful.

 

Module Objectives:

To gain some basic knowledge on testing of mechanical and adhesive properties of soft solids and on interpretation of experimental results 

To understand the principles of neutron and X-ray scattering applied to soft materials and what can be learned from these experiments

To learn some basic principles to assess the durability of polymers and to predict their lifetime
